Dr. Cowan's Garden Kale powder is an easy way to get lots of green vegetable nutrition in your diet. It takes more than four pounds of kale to make each bag.
Unlike most green powders, it is free of cheap grass fillers like wheat grass, barley grass, and alfalfa. Greens without grass, the way it should be.
Kale is a highly nutritious vegetable known for its many phytonutrients. It is one of the best sources of Vitamin K1, as well as carotenoids. It is also a great source of Vitamin C and manganese.
Kale also contains lots of goitrogens, which may inhibit thyroid function but are mostly removed with cooking. They steam their kale before dehydration to remove a large amount of them. The varieties include Red Russian, Scarlet, Lacinato, Dwarf Siberian, and Toscano.
The flavor is bright and grassy. When folded into most other foods, it takes on the flavor of those foods, which makes it ideal for picky vegetable eaters. To use, sprinkle on salads, eggs, rice, quinoa, buttered popcorn, steamed or roasted vegetables, fish or chicken. Add to smoothies, soups, stews, pasta, spaghetti sauce – really, anything you enjoy eating! It’s great sprinkled on scrambled or over-easy eggs in the morning.
Great uses for kale powder:
Sprinkle over fried or poached eggs or fold into scrambled eggs.
Add 1 to 2 tablespoons to a cup of heated bone broth, along with a handful of chopped fresh greens and leftover cooked rice or pasta. Simmer, covered, till greens are tender. Top with a dollop of sauerkraut.
Fold into cottage cheese and add chopped nuts and/or raisins.
Add a teaspoon or so to a mustard-citrus vinaigrette.
Sprinkle over sliced tomatoes, avocados, and chopped cucumbers (finish with Dr. Cowan's Garden Leek or Pepper Salt).
Add 1 to 2 tablespoons to your favorite smoothie.
Generously sprinkle over cooked rice or pasta, along with two or three other vegetable powders or salts.
Add a tablespoon to guacamole.
Add a teaspoon or so to your favorite cookie batter.
Mix a half-teaspoon or so into your favorite sauerkraut.
Thinly slice a bulb of fennel and sauté in bacon fat and ghee. Blanch a small bunch of chopped Swiss chard. Add a tablespoon of Kale Powder and salt to each. Mix the flavored fennel and chard and serve right away.
