MACA FARMERS - FLORENCIO AND YRAIDA
Florencio and Yraida are maca experts who specialize in the cultivation and production of premium Maca following ancient ancestral organic farming techniques. Their farm and farming techniques focus on the preservation of ancient spiritual practices and respecting the energetics of la Maca, Pachamama (mother earth), and her environment.
Every batch they produce is made with love, passion, care, and intention to help and heal. They are some of only a few traditional farmers left in Peru who keep their ancient traditions surrounding Maca and produce in artisanal ways.
For both Florencio and Yraida, Maca is a way of life, a spiritual connection to Pachamama, and to their roots as Incan descendants. They work incredibly hard to produce their amazing crops, and their attention to detail is second to none. They are blessed to have them as part of the team at Seleno Health and to be able to assist them in sharing their medicine with the rest of the world.
As a family, they spend a lot of time assisting their local community to improve the way of life for all others in their village. They are also an integral part of the social responsibility program and help allocate funds and identify local needs for development.
MACA COMMUNITY
Seleno Health has a direct partnership with its farmers and community in Peru and is committed to protecting them from exploitation, which can be prominent in many areas of the industry. The farm carries out the total production of their final products, meaning all profits are shared back with them, resulting in fair payment for premium farm-to-table products, a better-than-living wage, and eliminating the middleman.
They also donate a percentage of our profits to a development fund to improve the lives of those who make their products. They believe that if we benefit from the rich agricultural resources supplied by our farmers, then so should they.
When you buy any food, do your research, buy ethically, and support companies who are giving back. Your purchase is like a vote; vote wisely for the people trying to preserve and protect, not profit.
In the community that grows the Maca for their products, they are currently working on these projects:
• Funding improvements to the conditions at the San Jose de Quero school.
• Improving their farmer’s house regarding infrastructure, consumables, heating, water, internet, and sanitation.
• They sponsor 14 children from the community and pay for their annual schooling needs.
• Funded the building of accommodations to house eco-tourists, allowing the community to generate a long-term sustainable income in addition to their current trade.
• They are working to create cultural and professional development programs for their farmers, their families, and the local school children; this will improve their levels of education and professional experience.
