Algen Markt Organic Spirulina tablets are grown, dried, and cold-pressed into tablets on the farm in Greece.

The tablets are dried, ground, and pressed in raw food quality without additives on their partner farm in sunny Greece. The farm is run by the second generation and is a pioneer in setting new standards in algae cultivation. It is located in a selected location where the light conditions are extremely favorable. The water quality is of paramount importance here, with a balanced mixture of thermal and spring water to promote the natural enrichment of minerals. This also allows their 100% spirulina to rightly bear the European organic label.

Due to the gentle drying process, these spirulina tablets have no fishy taste.

Each batch is independently tested and subject to the quality guarantee, which ensures you always receive pure, high-quality organic spirulina.

FAQ:

Are the tablets free of fillers and binders?

These spirulina tablets are free of fillers and binders. The only ingredient is spirulina.

How is the spirulina dried?

Drying is a decisive factor in spirulina quality; their spirulina is not hot spray dried as in conventional processes; it is allowed to dry slowly and gently in the air at temperatures below 42°C. This means that all nutrients are fully preserved.

Large industrial plants  for spirulina production can be found primarily in Asia. Here, production is optimized according to standards of economic efficiency in order to be able to produce cheaply for the global market. The quality of the spirulina also suffers enormously here because, in order to save time, the spray drying method is used: the cell membrane of the spirulina is sprayed under pressure and with the help of a hot air stream (100-200°C), thus breaking it up. The destruction of the cell membrane leads to rapid oxidation and causes an unpleasant, somewhat fishy smell. The high temperatures also cause vitamins, secondary plant substances, and the protein structure to be lost, significantly reducing positives.

How should spirulina tablets look?

A deep forest green - with a slight bluish tinge - is the color you should look for. If you have tablets in front of you, they should have a matte appearance; a shiny surface suggests that the spirulina has been atomized, compacted, and coated with a binding agent layer that holds it together.

How should spirulina smell?

Spirulina has a light, pleasant, spicy smell. If it is too strong or unpleasant, this indicates a high oxidation rate and, therefore, poor quality.

Why is the origin of spirulina important?

If the manufacturer doesn't provide any information, ask! Organic certification of spirulina is not always possible or sensible, so the manufacturer should provide as transparent information as possible about where and under what conditions their spirulina grows. The farm in question should also be named, not just the region. There should also be information about regular quality controls , as the algae can easily become toxic due to contamination.  Covered aquaculture is safer than open aquaculture.
